World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
Upgrades to items are a method to increase the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade, it may increase the rarity of an item or mark Level, and also boost other stats.
The process of upgrading equipment in The War Within requires a set number of Flightstones and Crests and each item has an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next item by a specific amount.
Item Level
The value of an item's base stats increases when it is upgraded. This is the sum of all of an item's upgraded perks (attack magic attack and defense). The cost of upgrading items can be high, depending on the upgrader you choose and the kind of upgrade you decide to make. This is because of how many perks have to be replaced to allow the item to get upgraded.
It can also be used as a gating requirement when waiting for dungeons, raids and scenarios. It can also be used to determine a gating condition when queueing for dungeons, scenarios and raids, and to limit the amount of PvP gear a player can wear (since PvP is restricted to a lower level). Players can view their average level of items on their character sheet.
The level of an item can help players evaluate the strength of equipment when deciding to purchase or sell. It's an indicator of the damage and its quality. The level of the item can be used to evaluate items when examining the inventory of a vendor.
On PC, you can view the item level using ALT, or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will display the item's full description, including ilvl. It can also be found by hovering an item with the mouse cursor and typing /itemlevel in chat.
There are several theories about how the item level is determined. One theory is that the level is a number that comes from a formula that determines the amount an item's stats are worth. It considers that different perks are valued differently, and that gems found in sockets boost the value of the item. This can lead to an item's ilvl which is calculated and is usually very close to Blizzard's real item level.
This is not the only factor that affects the level of an item. The location of where the item dropped can also change its stats. For instance, it could increase the item's haste, or crit rating. This means that items dropped at higher levels will have higher the ilvl than items from lower level instances.
Item Stats
The item's stats can make or break an item for players. The game uses them in many ways to encourage players not to restrict themselves to a particular weapon and to motivate them to try out other weapons. The stat modifications of weapons boost base stats. These stat mods are then enhanced by a player's level.
The upgrades to an item can increase the stats of an item. The rarity of an item determines the cost of upgrading. For example, a grey or white item can only be upgraded once, whereas items with rare tiers will be upgraded several times with higher prices.
Another way to change the stats on an item is by affixing it. They are stat boosts which can be added by the player to an item. The affixes could do things like give the item extra damage, add a special ability to the item (such as reviving dead or decreasing cooldowns) or make the item unique by adding a special name to the item.
At present, all affixes can be changed by selecting them from the upgrade window and pressing the green button using circles arrows. This will cost a certain amount of gold and other items. These can be used as upgrade gauges similar to other methods of rerolling.
Players can upgrade an item to specific stats, or reroll the affixes. The possible stat ranges for an item are based on the level of the item, but every item is guaranteed to have at least one stat within the specified range, unless it's a unique item or the result of a God roll from a boss in a raid.
Another thing that could be changed by adding an option to upgrade the equipment without having to reroll the affixes or deciding which stats to boost. As with the base equipment, this will have to be done per item and the interface for item comparison wouldn't display all possible stats at once.
Item Luck
The Luck stat of a player can increase the likelihood of locating items and the properties that are created by loot and the strength of these properties. It does not, however directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives the player the chance to upgrade gear earlier in the game. item upgrader is more advantageous for early game runs, since players tend to prioritize the scaling of weapons and defenses over raw damage gains.
In addition to influencing the discovery of items, Luck also increases the probability of success when upgrading items with the Blacksmith. This isn't to be confused with the Blacksmith’s overall chances of upgrading, which increase with each level of the item. They can also be increased with the use of anti-materials such as a Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.
The shields, armor and weapons have the default Luck value of 40. These items can be augmented with golden ingots or spined leather (depending on the type of material) to increase the value of 40 luck or to increase the luck of the item to 140.
Furthermore there are certain items, like the Hollow infused weapon can be used to boost the damage of any damage-dealing skill by five percent. These items are available from the shop or made using the correct ingredients.
Item Failure
Not all upgrades work. However, there are some cash shop items which allow players to increase their chances of success or even prevent themselves from losing an item in the event that the upgrade is unsuccessful.
When you upgrade an item, the success rate is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the likelihood of successfully upgrading the item. This can be increased with Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limitations to the extent to which success rates can be increased and the chance of an upgrade failing can't be greater than 100%..
The success of an upgrade is also affected by the luck of the item. Every item has an initial success rate of 25% and every item with Luck increases that chance by five percent.
The upgrade overlays for items are displayed above items in the inventory. This could block enchantment effects as well as other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
